The Louisiana legislature is considering a bill that allows a qualified physician to prescribe medical marijuana to state residents 21 and older for the treatment of epilepsy. For many adults living with uncontrolled seizures, which can lead to disability, injury, and even death, medical marijuana may offer a way to control or reduce their seizures when they have otherwise run out of options.

CBD, a component of marijuana and hemp that can be made into oil, has helped some individuals achieve seizures control when no other treatment option has been effective. The Epilepsy Foundation supports the rights of individuals living with seizures and epilepsy to access physician directed care, including CBD oil. We believe more research should be done on the safety, efficacy, and potency of CBD, but patients with uncontrolled seizures cannot afford to wait. SB 541 opens the door to access to medical marijuana for adults living with epilepsy, but the bill should be amended to include CBD oil and allow those under the age of 21 to access a potentially lifesaving treatment.

Ask the Governor to support SB 541 with an amendment that lifts age restrictions and includes CBD oil so people living with epilepsy and uncontrolled seizures can gain access to this treatment option. Click the image below and fill out the Take Action form to contact the Governor today.
